Criminal Defence
We represent clients facing criminal charges in all areas of the criminal law, including state and Commonwealth charges.
We work hard to make sure our clients succeed in their criminal cases. This includes giving realistic advice, negotiating with the police, prosecutors and ODPP, defending criminal charges at hearings and trials and ensuring the best possible outcomes – including if your matter is resolved by way of a plea and sentence.
We’re available at short notice to attend police stations throughout NSW to support you during a police interview, and for urgent bail applications to get you back home.

Employment Law
Workplace disputes can be complicated and unpleasant. We guide employers and employees through all aspects of workplace issues, and we’re here to help you too. Employment law is complex. Cases that start in the Fair Work Commission can end up in the Federal Courts while others can go from Small Claims to the Supreme Court.
Litigation is sometimes unavoidable. If it’s time to sue or be sued, we have the tactics and experience to give you confidence. With Sutton Law, you’re in safe hands. We represent both employers and employees in all types of disputes, and have years of experience on the internal structures of some of Australia’s largest corporate employers.
But, just because you’re retaining a lawyer, it doesn’t mean you’re going to court. Sutton Law are skilled at negotiating discreet settlements with confidential terms.
For Employers
Sutton Law represent all types of employers, from national retailers, to family businesses and online start-ups. And we understand that you want happy, healthy workplaces, and a return on your investment in employees. And, because we’ve worked in-house with some of Australia’s largest employers, we know that a business needs more than just an employment lawyer. You need advice that encompasses human resources, employee relations and commerciality.
We do a lot more than solve disputes. We pride ourselves on providing a full-service approach to our employer clients. We make the law work for you, tailoring solutions for your business so that you can get back to keeping it running like clockwork. Our services include tailoring and negotiating contracts and HR policies, inhouse investigations, working through pre-employment issues (e.g. reference and criminal checks), clarifying wages, hours and other obligations and managing the 3Rs: restructures, redeployments and redundancies.
As advocates for preventative action, we also provide tailored training programs to upskill your managers and employees on the big 5 employment issues: managing absenteeism, bullying and harassment, investigation and disciplinary management, discrimination and unfair dismissal.
For Employees
Sutton Law work with butchers, bakers and candlestick makers. Oh, and teachers, corporate CEOs, warehouse managers, receptionists, heads of department, doctors, other lawyers and even sailors.
We have learnt that you all have the same work/life goals: to be fulfilled, appreciated, recognised… and properly remunerated. This is where our in house experience gives us an edge. We have been employers and know how they think and can use this knowledge to keep you one step ahead of the game.
Whether it’s making sure your employment contract is perfectly negotiated, interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements, or ensuring you get your entitlements, Sutton Law know what you deserve and how to get it.
You may experience issues during your employment such as workplace bullying, harassment and discrimination, retrenchment or negotiating your exit, and we can help you with that, too. We can also resolve pre-employment issues, like discriminatory hiring practices.
If you’re a complainant, witness or victim in a workplace investigation, we can advocate on your behalf, or just support you through the process.
Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs)
AVOs aren’t just a piece of paper. They’re serious. Whether you are applying for an AVO, or defending one, you should engage experienced lawyers to represent you at court.
AVOs have to be followed by the letter, but breaches can happen easily, and sometimes unknowingly. It’s a criminal offence to breach an AVO, which can lead to fines and even gaol time.
It is always important to seek advice from an AVO lawyer as soon as possible, regardless of your situation.
Traffic Law
If you are charged with a driving or traffic related offence, you might be facing a criminal conviction, hefty fine or even imprisonment; not to mention a long period off the road.
The NSW Traffic Law is complicated and can be difficult to understand. Our traffic lawyers deal with all types of traffic law matters, from drink driving charges (PCAs), to licence suspension appeals and challenging infringements.
Initial Consultation
We offer new clients a reduced fee initial consultation, during which we can review your paperwork and provide you with options on how to proceed with our guidance and help. Our initial consultations can take place virtually or in person, including out of hours.
Payment Options
At our initial consultation, we will provide you with a transparent fee estimate. We are flexible with our payment options, including offering payment plans that suit your needs.
